After God had completed His work of creating the world, He knit into the DNA of His creation a day that was set apart from all the other days. He declared Himself that the seventh day was a holy day, sanctified for rest. Creation, before the fall of man, had a rhythm that took its beat from a place of rest - the holy day influencing how all the other days were experienced.
Shabbat (the Hebrew word for Sabbath) is a gift and a delight because it is a glimpse of our eternity with Him. It reminds us we are free, not slaves. It reminds us His presence is enough. It reminds us He did not make us to achieve things - He made us to be in relationship with Him. The Sabbath is the spirit of His entire Kingdom... of our eternity! The more we practice it, the more it transforms how we experience all the other days. We begin to live from rest... from freedom... from actually knowing what the Kingdom tastes like... and that changes everything.
